Q. How often should I write to my sponsored child?
A. Children love to receive mail. They are disappointed when they don’t receive it and feel loved when they do. Monthly or quarterly letters would be appropriate.
Mail letters, with 98 cents postage, to:
(Your child’s name and student number)
GGCC
P. O. Box 24
Mfangano Island, Kenya
Letters arrive in about two weeks.
Q. How often will I receive letters from my sponsored child?
A. There is no set schedule, but children typically write to their sponsors when visiting mission teams are available to transport the letters. This may be one or two times a year.
Q. Why do you recommend not sending packages?
A. Mail service is not reliable in Kenya and packages may not arrive. Instead of packages, we recommend tucking small, flat items into your letters such as photographs, stickers, or bookmarks.
Q. Is it necessary to include my child’s student number on letters and checks?
A. It is helpful if you do. Many children at GGCC have the same first and last names. Including the student number ensures that your child receives his/her letter, and it helps office staff process checks more quickly.
Q. What does my monthly support pay for?
A. Monthly support helps provides food, school supplies (including Bible), school uniform, socks, shoes, underwear, personal hygiene items and lodging.
Q. What is the Continuing Education Fund?
A. Upon graduation from GGCC, each student who wants to continue his/her education will receive a scholarship of $60 for each year he/she attended GGCC. These scholarships are funded by setting aside $5 a month for each child. Sponsors who can increase their sponsorship $5 a month to help fund the scholarships are encouraged to do so.
Q. What if my sponsored child asks me for money?
A. If your child has special monetary needs, please refer him/her to the Director of GGCC. The Director is in the best position to determine each child’s needs.
