History of GGCC
2002
• The Kenyan Board was formed to oversee the operations of GGCC and the U.S. Advisory Board was formed to help with fund raising
• Land was purchased and construction began on the classrooms
2003
• GGCC opened with 120 students in Kindergarten through third grade
• A generator was purchased and construction of first dormitory began
2004
• Grade 4 and 40 students were added
• Funds were donated for a playground
2005
• Grade 5 was added and enrollment reached 204
• A water filtration system, showers and classrooms were added
2006
• Grade 6 was added and student enrollment reached 268
• Grade 6 students placed first in Suba District testing
• A vehicle for travel on the mainland was purchased, and a satellite communications system, boat dock and septic system were added.
• Began construction on a multi-purpose building, and additional land was purchased for expansion
2007
• Grade 7 was added and student enrollment reached 315
• Student test scores were among the highest in the district and the country
• Gutters were installed to collect rainwater; a guesthouse and multipurpose building were completed
2008
• A kitchen/dining facility was built at the guesthouse
• Grade 8 was added and student enrollment reached 366
2009
• Addition of High School, computer lab and science lab
